I do not know how the time flies by when we seem to be standing still! And now Summer has tipped her hat at us here in New York City. Hot days that makes you understand the sitting on the porch with a glass of lemonade and a fan life. And maybe a hammock. And a good book.
We are doing our thing the best we know how and hope all of you are doing the same. Hanging in there with love, positive energy and safe living.
For the Fourth of July we did a fun weekend delivery to all of our guests who have been participating and supporting the Simone a GoGo program and at the same time gave our staff a mini break to enjoy time away from the restaurant. I realized with a start that they have been with us pedaling uphill since the March shutdown and some porch time was needed!
We composed the most delicious French Market Basket, complete with a Provencal style straw bag with leather handles for our guests to continue to enjoy as they get out and about to their local shops. Lobster salad, ham and parsley terrine, housemade bread and butter pickles and pickled carrots, roasted Cascun Farm Chicken, chowchow, macaroni salad, a selection of cheeses, our delish bread, gazpacho, lemony basque cake and pot de cremes! And then we did a bottle of German Rose and a special secret Sangria mix from Jose to mix in your home to enjoy. Our lovely guests were so delighted and we were equally so to be able to provide a little whimsy and easy joy for them. As we keep forging ahead they are right there with us, lifting us up and helping us stay afloat.
We now also get to seat our single luxurious patio table out front and boy, does it seem like the most charming seat in the city. Private, set below the street and sidewalk and 100% yours for the evening. Of course my limits of stretching the Simone standard stopped dead in its tracks with the suggestion of putting any tables in the streets curbside…though I understand and support all of my fellow restauranteurs trying just to make it work. Challenging times for all.
We had the great pleasure of the Clos Cibonne Rose the other night for dinner, from our friend Andre Talmers at de Maison selections. Really one of the most distinctive roses out there. And our cheerleading squad at Chambers Street Wines continue to send treats our way to compliment Chip and his evening meal for us…as I write this he has a Pork Shoulder, dry rubbed, slow roasting in the kitchen. Sicilian red, maybe? Or Mencia? Or boozy lemonade…au revoir for now, my friends.
