We have been treated to a few delicious meals by friends, colleagues, guests. An experience we rarely did while have our lovely little jewel of a restaurant there to receive you and guests.
Chip is also doing some “home cooking…”
It is time for his beloved grill to get a workout and this past Sunday he bought the most beautiful Poussin at the Columbus Farmer’s Market, over by the Museum of Natural History, from our very best egg friends, Yellow Bell Farms.
Marinated overnight in olive oil, whole pieces of lemon, garlic, salt, and pepper. Then put on the sizzle and really, lip-smacking good.
Coleslaw, fresh beans, new potatoes…ahh, summer!
A Campari and soda with orange while grilling (and a cigar), and then for dinner a Beaujolais Blanc. When all else in life seems a challenge, there is no doubt that this is part of the “GOOD LIFE.”
Had a feast of food, wine, companionship with our wine foodies at Wu’s Wonton King in Chinatown, our first trip there, but obvious that this was not a first trip for these guys! Weather was glorious, wine flowed pretty steadily, food just kept coming. Conversation too much to even keep up with.
Some interesting fellows set up on the corner to film a rap video to post on all of those sites I know nothing about, and Chip had one of his many cameras and asked if he could take some shots. New York City, life as we all love it. Never ever dull.
A terrific evening with Gonzalo at Cosme ending with Mezcal tasting, Ouch! But fascinating to hear him speak of all of the levels from a single producer. Chip was mesmerized by the pineapple puree that came with the Mahi Mahi (raw). He will be wanting to use that in his future. And yep, those duck carnitas are still so so good. A softshell crab crispy seared with I think maybe tamarind was a natural for a non-sherry wine from Jerez, using the local grapes for a stunning table wine.
My crew are all out in their new jobs. Fancy and elegant places that make me proud to call them, as always, my fabulous team. If you see them on your new dining journeys they will greet you like old friends. Chip and I are think tanking for the next adventure, but will admit to enjoying more sleep than we have had in many a year.
Are you all getting sunburned, frolicking in oceans/lakes/rivers? Are you snoozing in hammocks and spending all afternoon into the wee hours at barbeque’s? I certainly hope so! Remember to get out in our fair and wondrous city to catch all of the freebies in the out of doors. Almost too much to keep up with. And drink ice cold Champagne/Sparkling wines as often as you can. A respite from the troubles of the day.
Be in touch soon. We miss you like mad, no lie.
